Short URL for this article: http://is.gd/esCdh New Member Research & Networking Forum 2010, Saturday, Aug. 7th (3:15 - 4:45 p.m.)
The goal of the New Member Research & Networking Forum is to be an informal opportunity for new members to the OB Division to learn more about the division, meet other new members, and connect with established members of the division. The Forum is a place where new members can discuss their shared research interests while meeting new colleagues. Rather than presentations, the Forum will use round table discussions. Tables based on overarching OB research topics are each anchored by two established names in their respective fields. Faculty fellows and table topics include:
- Leadership & Power: Gretchen Spreitzer, Fred Walumbwa
- Creativity & Innovation: Teresa Amabile, Christina Shalley
- Team Processes & Effectiveness: Scott DeRue, John Mathieu
- Diversity & Cross-Cultural Management: David Harrison, Belle Rose Ragins
- Identity: Blake Ashforth, Shelly Brickson
- Motivation: Gary Latham, Alex Stajkovic
- Organizational Citizenship & Prosocial Behavior: Michael Crant, Philip Podsakoff
- Relational & Social Processes (e.g., trust, justice): Russell Cropanzano, Terri Scandura
We will be sending out personal invitations to new members in the next couple of weeks.

"Halfway There, But Now What?" Advice for Pre-Dissertation Doctoral Students Workshop
Saturday, August 7, 2010 - 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM (Eastern Time)
This workshop is aimed for doctoral students who are about to start their 3rd or 4th year in their doctoral program. A wonderful aspect of the Academy of Management meeting is that there are many developmental opportunities for doctoral students. For example, the Academy's New Doctoral Student Consortium (which runs all day Saturday) helps students beginning their 1st or 2nd year of a doctoral program to begin getting socialized into the field. In addition, as noted above, the OB Division sponsors a Doctoral Consortium for doctoral students on the job market (typically in their 4th or 5th year). The purpose of this workshop is to fill the gap between the New Doctoral Student Consortium and the "senior student" OB Doctoral Consortium by providing information relevant to "mid-career" doctoral students beginning their 3rd or 4th year in their doctoral program, who completed their classwork and are about to begin the dissertation stage. We will bring together knowledgeable OB Division members to provide advice on topics important to 3rd and 4th year doctoral students, such as (1) helping with one's dissertation (e.g., choosing a topic, picking an advisor, putting together a committee, strategies for success), (2) developing a stream of research (e.g., finding your passion, moving papers along), and (3) understanding the "on the job market" process (e.g., what your CV should look like, how the Academy's placement system works, developing good research and teaching statements). The deadline to register is August 4, 2010; however, unlike the Doctoral Consortium, students do not need to be nominated by their schools.
To learn more and to formally register, see http://program.aomonline.org/2010/Session_Details.asp?print=true&SubmissionID=10174. |
